All questions about canary rings answered

Why ring a canary?

Are you wondering why you would ring a canary? The answer is two-part and depends on whether you also go to shows with your canary or if you have your canary only as a hobby.

But in either case, ringing your canaries does make it easier to distinguish your canaries from each other.

Why ring a canary for exhibitions?

All information about the canary is linked to the ring number on the canary, such as whether the canary has been vaccinated. This is why it is important that if you want to take your canary to exhibitions that your canary is ringed.

This method works because the canary gets a ring with color of that year on it at a young age. And at a later age the ring can only be removed by cutting it open.

The canary must be ringed with an official fixed foot ring that can only be ordered from the federation.

The canary rings that we offer are not approved for this purpose.

Why ring a canary as a hobbyist?

As a hobbyist, you are not required to ring your canary. But with split rings for canaries you can more easily distinguish your canaries from each other, though.
These split rings are available both blank and numbered. This in up to 12 different colors.

The ring size of your canary

Because there are different canary breeds, each with their size, there is not 1 universal ring size for canaries. The ring size varies between 2.3 mm and 2.9 mm.
You can use the ring size of your canary found in our ring table. You can find the ring size by searching for "canaries" in the search bar on the ring table page.

How to ring canaries?

At our split rings you get a spoon with which you can easily place the ring around your canary's leg.
